教会内そして世界中にはびこる混乱状況はなんたることでしょうか！（ "What confusion reigns in the Church and so in the world ! " ） 善意にあふれる善良な人々が一人また一人と闘（たたか）うのをあきらめ，もう抵抗（ていこう）するのはやめようと心に決め，時代の流れに従い，ほかの誰もがするように行動しようとしています（ "We see one after another the best of men, with perhaps the best of intentions, giving up the struggle and making the decision to resist no longer, to go with the flow, to follow the current, to do what everybody else is doing." ）．だが，その流れの中に神の存在はありません．そして，神はその流れを訴えることもなくただお咎（とが）めになられます．なぜなら，神はいささかも変わることがないからです（ "Yet that flow remains godless, and it is condemned by God without appeal, because he does not change." ）．だが，いまや神は新教皇に対しいかなる犠牲（ぎせい）をはらっても正しいことをなすべきだと訴えておられるはずです（ "No doubt he is right now appealing to the new Pope to do what is right, cost what it may.
